The race to be crowned 2016/17 champions of the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division is hotting up with it looking likely that the winner will be one of four teams – Thame United, Bracknell Town, Flackwell Heath or Thatcham Town.

Mark Tallentire’s Bracknell side have a pivotal week next week hosting Thame on Tuesday 15th November and Thatcham on Saturday 19th November with both matches taking place at Sandhurst Town’s Bottom Meadow ground.

Advantage Thame

It’s currently advantage Thame in the race. Four points off the top but with five games in hand they could climb to 49 points by winning all five matches.

Coupled with a strike force of Andrew Gledhill (31) and Lynton Goss (19) who have fifty goals between them, they look the most likely champions.

The Robins could get to 44 points by winning their six matches in hand and boast Adam Cornell with 19 goals and TJ Bohane with 17 goals for another formidable front duo in the division.

Points on the board

Flackwell have two matches in hand on Thatcham and can get to 39 points by winning both games.

Lastly the Kingfishers have the points on the board currently sitting top with 38 points after 19 matches played.

However with matches still to play against each other, teams will invariably drop points but if the Robins are to be crowned eventual champions they will probably need a maximum six points next week.

Quite simply, Tallentire’s side cannot afford to drop points compared to Thame and victory in both matches next week coupled with maximum points in the other games in hand would see the Robins handily placed two points below Thame with both sides having fifteen matches remaining.

At that stage you could not rule out Flackwell or Thatcham but realistically it becomes a straight shoot-out between Bracknell and Thame for the title.

Tallentire’s side will certainly be looking for support so if you are a Bracknell fan then get yourself along to both matches next week and give the Robins your moral and vocal support.
