Bracknell Town and Thatcham Town meet on Saturday afternoon for the fourth time in the 2016/17 season.

The two sides met on just the two occasions last season with the Kingfishers arguably having the upper hand following 6-2 win in the third game of the season while Bracknell made amends of sorts in the penultimate game with a 1-1 draw at Larges Lane.

This season though, it is the Robins who definitively rule the roost with three wins from the four meetings. Here’s a reminder of the ‘series’ so far:

FA Cup – 6th August 2016

Due to changes in the start dates of the FA Cup, Bracknell – drawn away to Thatcham Town in the Extra Preliminary Round – faced the blues in the second game of the 2016/17 season.

Bracknell had suffered a tough 3-1 opening day defeat at Flackwell Heath and weren’t necessarily expected to advance in the FA Cup – compete yes – but Mark Tallentire’s side were certainly the the underdogs.

Thatcham led 1-0 at half time and then 2-1 in the second half when Kennie Chamberlain levelled with 9 minutes to go and Adam Cornell won the tie with four minutes remaing.

Hellenic Premier – 27th August 2016

If Bracknell were the underdogs in the FA Cup tie, the Robins went into this one with a level of expectation following the signing of ‘Hellenic hitman’ TJ Bohane.

It was to prove all to easy for the Robins who swept aside the home side leading 3-0 shortly after half-time through Bohane (2) and Adam Cornell before former Bracknell striker Shane Cooper-Clark pulled one back for Thatcham.

There was still time though for Bracknell to finish the romp – Cornell hitting a fourth in a 4-1 win.

Berks & Bucks County Cup – 4th October 2016

Bracknell went ahead once again in this won, leading 2-0 through Seb Bowerman and Cornell in the opening 20 minutes with Josh Helmore replying for the Kingfishers with 13 minutes remaining.

The Robins then won their quarter final tie against Holmer Green and could potentially meet local rivals Binfield in the final if both sides win through in the semi-finals.

Goals: Seb Bowerman, Adam Cornell (Bracknell), Josh Helmore (Thatcham)

And that’s how it sits in the series with Bracknell leading 3-0. Of course, the two sides could still meet in the Hellenic League Cup and the Floodlit Cup so the story may not yet be over..
