GB Deaf football team warm up against Bracknell’s George Lock

Back in mid-May, the GB Deaf Football men’s team began their preparations for the 2016 World Cup in with a game against the Soccer AM team featuring Bracknell Town’s tenacious full-back George Lock.

In short, the Soccer AM side were absolutely battered by the visitors.

A brief report on the British Deaf Football website said: “The GBDF men (and one lady!) representative side played against Sky’s Soccer AM team last night at Hayes & Yeading FC winning in style with the whole game filmed by Sky as part of their Soccer AM production.

We spoke briefly to Locky who said: “We were asked to play for the Soccer AM team as they were short on players, we got to meet a few of the famous faces and play the game.

“The deaf team in comparison to us were athletes, perfectly fit, great on and off the ball. And the most surprising thing I have to say is the strength and organisation of their defence. Despite not being able to communicate verbally, it was immaculate!

“We had Tubes playing for us as well as Smithy, but they absolutely smashed us!”

The GB deaf team need a £1,000 each to go to the Deaf World Cup in Italy this summer, you can find out how to support them via the website britishdeaffootball.com
