10 man Bracknell Town kicked off their 2017/18 season with a 2-0 win over neighbours Ascot United at Larges Lane on Tuesday night.

The Robins – in front of a crowd of over 400 – led after a seventh minute goal for Adam Cornell who converted Dave Hancock’s cross and Bracknell duly piled on the pressure.

Despite that, there were no more goals in the first half and Ascot’s glimmer of hope came in the second when Bracknell captain Carl Davies was dismissed for a foul on the edge of the penalty box just after the hour mark.

There was no fight back though for the Yellamen and Cornell made certain of the first three points of the season when a nice move between Jamie McClurg George Short allowed the forward to curl a deflected strike past Lee Allen in the United goal. Read the full report here..

Binfield’s start to the season couldn’t really have started any worse with new signing Joe Grant sent off on the quarter hour mark in a 2-0 defeat at Wantage Town.

There was a bright spot for the Moles who saw debutant goalkeeper Matt Hill (pictured top) make an important penalty at 1-0 but ultimately – and despite Wantage being reduced themselves to 10 men in the second half Roger Herridge’s side were unable to find a way back.

Woodley United had a fine start to their first season as a step 5 club, holding last seasons 3rd placed side Flackwell Heath to a 0-0 draw at Wilks Park.

Highmoor-IBIS shared six goals with Burnham at the Gore in a 3-3 draw – both sides scoring late to cancel each other out while IBIS had Mitch Parker sent off for a second bookable offence.

There was plenty of action elsewhere, not least between Tuffley Rovers and newly promoted Fairford Town which finished 1-1 saw a red card and this frankly excellent goal:
