What to expect as Thatcham Town visit Bracknell at Larges Lane

If you enjoy you’re local football (and we can presume since you are reading this that you do), the end of the season is the perfect time for you. There’s almost a game a day to get your teeth into and tonight is no different with Bracknell Town v Thatcham Town at Larges Lane.

Mark Tallentire’s side are safe from relegation despite defeat on Saturday and effectively have nothing to play for outside the cup competitions, but Thatcham have a runners-up spot to earn – and a win this evening will do it.

Oh and Bracknell fans favourite Shane Cooper-Clark makes his first return to the club since joining Thatcham.

Cooper-Clark will get a good reception

When Shane joined Thatcham, he went with the best wishes of the Bracknell supporters having turned down half a dozen approaches previously and as the stand-out player for the club (and the division – he was voted the leagues best player at the end of last season) during the 2014/15 season as well as the early part of the 15/16 season when he scored 17 goals for a side second bottom of the Hellenic Premier League.

Since then, Cooper-Clark has more than made a name for himself at a side challenging at the opposite end of the table in a side with an embarrassment of attacking riches in Yashwa Romeo and Jon Bennett to name but two – and has started the last two games scoring once and a record of nine goals overall.

Will Tallentire rest players for the cups?

A big question for Mark Tallentire – especially given George Short, Seb Bowerman and Declan Kirby all limped out of Saturday’s defeat – is will he rest his key men for the upcoming Supplementary Cup semi-final and Reading Senior Cup quarter-final.

‘Tally’ has proved adept at giving players game time in recent weeks but one wonders whether Adam Cornell in particular might be rested.

Bracknell have three league games remaining and could finish as high as thirteenth and have a potential five cup games so the season is far from over!

Goals

Last time these two sides met, it was a 6-2 win for Thatcham, and if last night we predicted* goals between Ascot and Binfield with two 20 goal strikers on the pitch, what do you think we’ll do now that their could be four of them for this game?

Josh Helmore, Bennett, Cornell and Cooper-Clark are the men in form in front of goal but a lot will depend on the state of the Larges Lane pitch which again has taken a lot of rain.

Kick-off this evening at Larges Lane is at 7.45pm.
