The sixth article in our weekly series on the countries best non league football grounds takes us to Teesside and is compiled by James Cartwright, the man behind the excellent Teesside Football Blog.

We’ve previously had submissions from our correspondents in KentHampshireNorthamptonshireGloucestershire and last time Essex as we look to compile a list of some of the best venues to visit in the country.

James previously interviewed us as part of the Sport on Tees podcast when Marske United were due in Bracknell for the FA Vase Quarter Final this year. Here’s James’ top five Teesside grounds:

5 Bishopton Road West – Stockton Town

This is a perfect example of what a modern non league ground should be. An artificial pitch available to use for the whole community with a nice seated stand and terrace. Stockton are very much on the up too, gaining two promotions in two seasons as well as finalists in this seasons FA Vase. It would not be at all surprising to see this ground at higher level in Non League in a few years time.

4 King George V Ground – Guisborough Town

A seated stand to one side (pictured top) and terracing the other, this ground has the classic look a non league ground should have. Perhaps it’s biggest quality is the club house. The actual club house has its charms and the refurbished Priory suite makes for a classy venue for party events.

3 The GER Stadium – Marske United

This ground has character. The seated stand is the typical modern day non league stand but the ‘tin shed’ to the other side of it houses Marske’s vocal support. The only thing that keeps it down the list is the pitch, such is its quality the Seasiders haven’t played at the ground too often in recent weeks.

2 Teesdale Park – Thornaby Town

Thornaby don’t get big crowds and that’s a shame because this ground has a lot of charm. Literally off the beaten track, it’s tucked away in a park near a cemetery. The seated stand, named ‘The Peter Morris stand’ to commemorate the late secretary of the club houses the dressing rooms. There’s a nice seated area behind the goal and the uniqueness of the ground is top off by a bus shelter in the hard standing area.

1 Bedford Terrace – Billingham Town

The big winner for Billingham Town is Bedford Terrace’s seated stand. It provides a good vantage point that no other ground in Teesside can provide. Town fans also provide a humorous day out with their quality terrace ‘banter’. If standing is your thing, there’s a nice covered area to the other side. Like Thornaby, Billingham Town also have a bus shelter inside the ground.
