The table never lies, and this season has been statistically Bracknell Town’s best ever in the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League after they eclipsed their 2013/14 season total of 50 with the 2-1 win over Thatcham Town at Waterside Park last night.

Bracknell have spent four seasons in the Premier Division – one in Division 1 East – and will be hoping to register their first plus goal difference since joining the league in 2010 – come the end of the season.

It could be argued we are celebrating mediocrity here, but anyone who witnessed the score lines that reached double figures during the 2011/12 season, and the disastrous 2009/10 season in the Southern League will see it as a huge step forward.

Arguably last season was the most successful overall in recent times with a solid league return and cup final and a semi-final appearances, but the combined reigns of Ed Carpenter and Keith Penicott-Bowen this season mean Bracknell are breaking some Hellenic Premier Division PB’s.

2014/15 – 52 points from 34 games so far

16 wins, 4 draws, 14 defeats.

Goals For 62, Goals Against 51 and a Goal Difference of +11.

Ups and downs: The title is Flackwell Heath’s to lose and they have applied for promotion. Cheltenham Saracen’s and Shrivenham have been effectively relegated pending other clubs movements.

2013/14 – 50 points from 38 games

15 wins, 5 draws, 18 defeats.

Goals For 59, Goals Against 65 and a Goal Difference of -6.

Ups and downs: Wantage Town won the league and took promotion. Abingdon Town were relegated.

2011/12 – 28 points from 40 games

8 wins, 4 draws and 28 defeats.

Goals For 42, Goals Against 122 and a Goal Difference of -80.

Ups and downs: Oxford City Nomads won the league, but Shortwood United took promotion. Fairford Town and Bracknell Town were relegated.

2010/11 – 46 points from 42 games

12 wins, 10 draws, 20 defeats.

Goals For 65, Goals Against 99 and a Goal Difference of -34.

Ups and downs: Wantage Town won the league but neither they nor second placed Binfield were able to take promotion. Pegasus Juniors and Carterton were relegated while Shrivenham and Fairford Town earned reprieves.

Do you agree this is Bracknell’s best modern league season? Can you remember better further back? Let us know in the comments.
