In January 2014 Windsor Football Club launched their now infamous Union Jack kit on the non league footballing public.

The kit was launched as part of an unprecedented sponsorship agreement for Windsor with Thames Motor Group (who still support the club today) in FourFourTwo magazine and has gained a ‘marmite’ reputation among football supporters.

At a recent fixture, long-time Royalists supporter Paul Smithson shared a couple of photos of branded Fiat 500s that used to park up at the ground during the clubs fixtures.

Speaking in the Windsor Observer at the time of the launch, then chairman Kevin Stott said: “It is something unique to Windsor, I don’t think anyone else has done this and can guarantee if somebody picks up on it some of the bigger clubs will start to do it.”

Football in Berkshire reached out to the man behind the branded cars, Sanjay Sobte (now also a sponsor of FiB) at Thames Motor Group.

He said: “We did them about four or five years ago as part of the launch of the new Union Jack kit. It was in FourFourTwo magazine plus we created a launch video, which you can still probably find on line, the cars were used as a static display at the football club for most of that season.”

We did find the video Sanjay! Here it is, featuring several current and recent Royalists:

Windsor recently revealed the new version of the Union Jack kit due to be used during the 2019/20 season, now made by Errea. Replica shirts are available to order via the windsorfc.net website.
