On Saturday 17th August 2002, the newly formed AFC Wimbledon began their journey back to the Football League with a first ever competitive fixture in the Combined Counties League at Sandhurst Town’s Bottom Meadow ground.

In charge that day were manager Pete Browning and assistant Steve Stairs as a crowd of 2,500 descended on the Berkshire town.

The Dons won the game 2-1 with a team that included Andy Sullivan who would go on to play for Bracknell Town and Glenn Mulcaire (Google him). The Fizzers side included the likes of Grant Nesbitt and Pete Mulvaney.
