Today’s ‘The Knowledge’ article in the Guardian focussing on the clubs with the most promotions, relegations in their history as well as the most stable clubs got us thinking – how does that reflect on the current crop of 20 Hellenic Premier League teams?

For reference Grimsby Town and Notts County share 30 promotions and relegations, while in non-league Hendon look the most stable with 43 consecutive seasons in the Ryman Premier Divison.

So who are the most stable clubs in the Hellenic Premier League?

5. Ascot United & Binfield (7 consecutive seasons)

The Yellamen and Moles were promoted to the Hellenic Premier Division in the same season – 2009/10 from Division 1 East. Binfield won the division with Ascot second.

Since their elevation, both sides have been regular worriers of the top-half of the table and look like continuing that run.

4. Flackwell Heath (9 consecutive seasons)

Heathens have played 14 seasons in total in the Hellenic Premier, but their latest run began following relegation from the Ryman League back in 06/07.

Flackwell should of course broken that run last summer, but elected to reject promotion back to Step 4 after winning the championship.

3. Kidlington (11 consecutive seasons)

‘Kiddy’ have played 22 Hellenic Premier Division seasons but their current run started in 05/06 after winning promotion from Division 1 West in third place.

The Yarnton Road side could easily have been demoted the same year after finishing second bottom but were arguably saved thanks to Tuffley Rovers resignation and Didcot Town, Abingdon United and Bishops Cleeve all joining the Southern League.

2. Ardley United (12 consectutive seasons)

If Ardley’s run of 12 from 12 isn’t impressive enough, they’ve only twice finished outside the top half of the table.

They’ve finished runners-up once, third twice and fourth on one occasion.

1. Highworth Town (22 consecutive seasons)

This is going to take some beating certainly, but Worthians run of 22 seasons out of 22 in the Hellenic Leagues top flight has yielded five top four finishes including one championship in 2004/05.

The first three seasons from 1994 to 1997 saw bottom three finished in each year but the club have been upwardly mobile since then and topped it all off with an FA Vase Semi Final appearance last season.

Honourable mentions

35.. the total number of seasons Thame United have spent in the Hellenic Premier League – their current run is six consecutive seasons but they have two championships to their name.

31.. still impressive, but the number of seasons Abingdon United have spent in the Hellenic Premier. The current run is three.

14.. Tuffley Rovers total seasons spent in the Hellenic Premier, but they have the lowest number of consecutive to total seasons with this term being the first back in the HPL.

7.. the most common number of consecutive seasons. Ascot, Binfield and Oxford City Nomads all have a 100% appearance record since joining, but Nomads have the upper hand having won the division back in 2012.

5.. Bracknell Town’s total number of Hellenic Premier League seasons having also spent 12/13 in Division 1 East.
