The season is almost upon us, and the opening months fixtures have been released for clubs in the Uhlsport Hellenic Football League.

Clubs in and around Bracknell know where they will be for the month of August, so we thought we’d take a minute to pick out some of the big league games in the opening month of the season.

We’ll throw in the obvious ‘biggie’ from the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round as well with Thatcham Town due to host Bracknell Town on Saturday 6th August. You can see the full table and forthcoming fixtures here.

Binfield vs Burnham (twice)

The Moles get their home and away fixtures against the divisions new boys out the way early with a home game on Monday 15th August, and the return on Bank Holiday Monday 29th.

It’ll be an early test for Binfield against Dave Tuttle’s side who were relegated from the Southern League last season and you’d expect a decent crowd for these relatively local ties, although it is worth noting Burnham’s average attendance last season was 79 according to nonleaguematters.co.uk.

Ascot United vs Bracknell Town

Last season’s start for Bracknell was a toughie when they faced all of the ‘fancied’ sides for the league title in the opening four games of the season. 2016/17 doesn’t look much friendlier with Flackwell Heath, Oxford City Nomads and Thatcham Town – in the league and FA Cup – to contend with.

Bracknell will undoubtedly be stronger this time around though with an impressive forward line that includes 20 goal strikers Adam Cornell and Joe Grant – and it is the tie against Grant’s former club Ascot on Bank Holiday Monday 29th August that will be the most eagerly awaited for Robins fans – not least because the Yellamen will be a bit of an unknown quantity this season.

Woodley United vs Holyport

There’s an early derby for new United manager Michael Herbert in Division 1 East when Holyport head across to Scours Lane on Saturday 27th August.

Like Ascot, the Kestrals will be a bit of an unknown quantity this season with Herbert’s main aim in our opinion to restore a bit of pride at the club that has suffered two last place finishes in the last three seasons.

Sandhurst Town vs Wokingham & Emmbrook

Satsumas’ boss Clive McNelly will take his side to Bottom Meadow for what will quite possibly be the first league meeting between the two East Berks sides on Saturday 27th August.

Our #HellenicPanel predicted Wokingham will bounce back to the Premier Division at the first attempt and the planning decision on Lowther Road will certainly be a huge boost to the club going into the season.

It’s a big game for Sandhurst too, it’ll be only their third since transferring across to the Hellenic League from the Combined Counties and they’ll want to make their mark with the first visit of their local rivals.
