For most supporters, the close season is a chance to put feet up, catch up on box sets and just generally enjoy the summer (don’t look outside).

For the armies of volunteers at clubs across the country though, that’s where the hard work really begins!

We’ve had a quick look across our local area for the latest developments at the clubs we cover and a couple of others slightly further afield as the never ending work goes on to improve facilities at our non league clubs.

Binfield

The big movers over the summer have been Hellenic Premier Division side Binfield who have had a brand new changing block constructed as part of their development program.

The Moles will be able to use the new facilities which extend the main building on the site from the new season, while refurbishment of their club house is now under way.

Bracknell Town

The Robins had a brand new shiny Larges Lane to unveil during last season and had a bumper 500+ crowd for the opening night.

There was still plenty to do though and the latest developments include resurfacing the car park which leaves the whole place looking rather splendid.

Wokingham & Emmbrook

The Lowther Road upgrade continues to move after Wokingham & Emmbrook were granted permission for a step 5 standard facility in 2016.

The Sumas are aiming to have floodlights and covered accommodation in place for 2018/19 season which we believe would enable Dan Bateman’s side to take promotion to the Hellenic Premier Division should the club have a successful season.

Eversley & California

The Combined Counties Division 1 side have with the support of sponsor Bloor Homes installed a turnstile and are in the process of enclosing their Fox Lane ground completely. Forthcoming developments include a match day pitch side cafe, hospitality and toilet block which would give the club a step 5 grading allowing Eversley & California to accept a promotion to the Premier Division.

Clanfield 85

A little further afield, but the Hellenic League Division 1 West side have improved their Oxfordshire ground enough to be able to enter the FA Vase and FA Youth Cup next season.

According to the clubs website: “The hard standing behind the far goal and the entrance to the ground from the gate to the pay hut have now been fully concreted to comply with the ground grading requirements.”

Elsewhere: The clean up and repairs continue at Sandhurst Town.
