It’s been a story of red cards, missed penalties and Bracknell Town for Binfield Football Club and manager Roger Herridge in the Moles last five cup finals.

It’s a cycle Herridge is unsurprisingly eager break and he and his players will get another chance in the 2017/18 Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup Final.

Binfield came from behind to beat Flackwell Heath 3-1 at home on 20th March to make the final, of course Bracknell could await the in the final but the Robins own semi final opponents aren’t yet confirmed and could be either Thatcham Town or Brimscombe & Thrupp.

‘Not won one yet!’

Honest as ever Herridge said: “That’s six finals in my nearly four seasons in charge. Not won one yet!”

“It’s been a story of sendings offs (three in total), missed penalties and Bracknell Town who we faced in both finals we reached last season” he added.

The finals include this seasons Floodlit Cup which as mentioned will be against, Bracknell, Thatcham or Brimscombe.

There was the 2014/15 Reading Senior Cup against Wokingham & Emmbrook when Ian Davies was sent off and Callum Whitty missed an 89th minute penalty – the Moles subsequently lost in extra time and the Floodlit Cup was lost to North Leigh with Garry Callaway sent off.

The 2015/16 Reading Senior Cup saw the Moles in the ascendency against a Henley Town side fresh from winning promotion back to the Hellenic Premier only to see it all crumble when Jack Broome was rightly sent off.

Then in 2016/17 it was the Reading Senior Cup at Madejski Stadium and Berks & Bucks County Cup – both defeats to Bracknell.

Success

Of course it’s not all been doom and gloom for club and manager individually.

Herridge won the Reading Senior Cup three times as manager of Wokingham, beating Woodley Town, Highmoor Ibis and Marlow United as well as the County Youth Cup against Bracknell.

Binfield as a club have been incredibly consistent since their elevation to the Hellenic League Premier Division at the end of the 08/09 season.

They haven’t finished outside the top eight since then in the division – the high point being 2010/11 when they scored 108 league goals and finished second. The following season they lifted the Floodlit Cup and look a good bet to finish 6th this time around.

If Herridge and his young side can add some silverware to an already decent season it’ll be incredibly impressive all round.
