Bracknell Town are pushing for promotion from the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division up to step four of the English Non League Pyramid, but what do they need to do to achieve the dream?

The Robins narrowly missed out to Thame United last season after they were beaten by Highworth Town on the final day of the season and unsurprisingly it’s the Worthians along with Wantage Town who will have the big say in when Bracknell can celebrate.

As you’ll know, two teams will most likely go up from the Hellenic League this season due to FA restructuring and Bracknell, along with county neighbours Thatcham Town are in poll position to take advantage.

The scenario

As it stands, the top four of Thatcham, Bracknell, Highworth and Wantage could all conceivably finish in the top two.

For Wantage and Highworth, their chances hinge on Bracknell and Thatcham dropping points – something the Robins haven’t done in 10 league games, and the Kingfishers in four league games. It’s worth mentioning that while not dropping points in four league games doesn’t sound that impressive, Thatcham have won their last 12 games in all competitions.

So, here’s the maximum points that all four sides can get (worth mentioning in the run in, Thatcham and Highworth have to play each other):

  • Thatcham – 98 points
  • Bracknell – 98 points
  • Highworth – 91 points
  • Wantage 90 – points

If we assume Highworth win their remaining two fixtures (update – they beat Windsor 3-2 on Thursday night), that means Bracknell require four wins from their final six fixtures. Thatcham need two wins from their final four.

That will obviously change should Highworth drop points at the weekend.

What about the title?

As you can see from the chart list above, if both Bracknell and Thatcham win all their remaining games then they’ll finish on level points. The title will then most likely come down to goal difference, a metric in which Thatcham are superior by 12 goals to Bracknell.

So, lace up those shooting boots Robins fans!
