The new Bracknell Town & District Sunday League season kicks off again officially on Sunday 2nd September and Tony Hardy is on hand ahead of the big kick off for Football in Bracknell with a preview of the season ahead, teams to watch and what we might expect.

Before all that though, there is the seasons traditional curtain-raiser between the teams scoring most goals last season.

That’s Division 1 champions Raglan and Division 4 champions Silver Birch A who will play for the Dave Scovell Memorial Trophy at Larges Lane on Friday 31st August.

Premier Division

FC Fernhill will look to build upon the five Premier Division titles they’ve amassed in recent seasons.

Last season’s Champions (and treble winners, having also won the League Senior Cup and the Aldershot Cup) won’t have it their own way though and face a strong challenge from Athletico Forest, who have moved across from the Reading Sunday League as well as last season’s runners-up Crowthorne Inn – looking to go one better, and perennial challengers Finchampstead Athletic.

Also new to the Division are Panthers who have shown good form in pre-season as well as Raglan, last season’s Division 1 champions and County Junior Cup winners, making a swift return to the Premier as well as WAB, also promoted from Division 1 as runners-up.

The opening day fixtures see Fernhill take on Panthers in an intriguing opener. Elsewhere WAB host Athletico Forest, Morale Madrid play Crowthorne Inn and Golden Farmer Rangers take on Finchampstead Athletic.

Division 1

This Division looks wide open and will be equally as competitive as last season. The Division includes a number of promoted teams in Woodley United (Champions of Division 2), AFC Crowthorne Reserves, Athletico Ascot, Berks County and Bracknell Athletic. Newly formed Panthers Reserves may be a dark-horse and Wokingham & Emmbrook return to the Division following a difficult season in the Premier last season.

The pick of the opening day fixtures see Loveman (challengers for the title last season, finished 3rd) take on Bracknell Athletic and Winkfield take on newcomers Panthers Reserves. Elsewhere Berks County host Wokingham & Emmbrook whilst Athletico Ascot v. AFC Crowthorne Reserves completes the Divisions opening day fixtures.

Division 2

This Division comprises of no less than 5 promoted teams in Woodley Saints (last season’s Division 3 winners), Ashridge Park Royals, Bracknell Corinthians, Silver Birch and Winnersh Rangers who are joined by the newly formed Golden Farmer Rangers Reserves outfit.

Included in the opening day fixtures are Golden Farmer Reserves league debut away to Sandhurst FFC, Woodley Saints host Ashridge Park Royals and Silver Birch take on Moore Close Manor (formerly Newbold College).

Divisions 3 and 4

There are 3 new teams this season for Division 4 in Silver Birch Vets, Bracknell Athletic Reserves and AFC Crowthorne Old Boys. In Division 3 there has been a name change, Berkshire United becoming Running Horse and, following a re-organisation at Bracknell Cavaliers, their first team has taken up a position in Division 3.

In Division 3 Braybrooke Athletic, Bearwood Wanderers and Silver Birch A (last season’s Division 4 Champions) may be the strongest challengers. In Division 4 Crownwood Dukes will look to make the sort of start to the season they made last time out and stake a claim for the title whilst Bracknell Athletic Reserves may be a dark-horse.
