Can Hungerford Town avoid relegation from the National League South?

Prediction time, tin hat time.

When the fixtures were released for the 2018/19 season many Hungerford Town supporters would have noticed one fixture stand out in particular, the final game of the season vs East Thurrock at home.

Coincidentally the same team they faced at the end of the 2017/18 season, although away, a game which Hungerford HAD to win to survive and that they did in dramatic fashion.

I’ve had a look at all the fixtures remaining for those clubs in and around Hungerford in the league table. Weston-Super-Mare are all but done, Eastbourne Borough and above have enough points on the board in my opinion. That leaves two relegation places and four teams fighting to stay up.

In recent weeks I’ve seen enough fight, belief, togetherness and quality in Ian Herring’s squad to indicate that they have enough to survive, but only just and that final game at Bulpit Lane is looking huge, quite possibly a similar scenario to 12 months previous. 

For what it’s worth here’s how I see the season panning out from here on in:

  • Hemel Hempstead (a): 1pt
  • Gloucester City (h): 3pts

Gloucester City (currently on 32pts)

  • St Albans (a): 1pt
  • Welling United (h): 0pts
  • Eastbourne Borough (a): 1pt
  • Billericay Town (h): 0pts
  • Truro City (a): 0pts
  • Chippenham Town (h): 3pts
  • Welling United (a): 0pts

Total – 5pts

  • Hampton & Richmond (a): 1pt
