As the news has broken that four sides from the two Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 2 divisions have been promoted to step 6, we thought we’d take a look at the one club that falls under our Berkshire remit – meet Langley FC.

Langley is a village to the East of Slough with a population of 17,500. Previously based at Kedermister Park, the club signed a two year ground share arrangement with Holyport in June 2018, allowing the club to join the Hellenic League Division 2 East.

The club joined the Hellenic League Division 2 East that same summer after eight years in the East Berks Football League, finishing second behind fellow promoted side Long Crendon.

The road to the runners up spot saw them win 24 of the 28 games in the 15 team division, drawing two, losing two and scoring 106 goals while conceding just 18.

Top scoring for the side were 32 goal Dean Papali and 24 goal Ben White while they were able to call on experienced former Marlow and Reading Town goalkeeper Oneal Garnes for 21 matches.

We are well prepared, we were confident we would be moved up.

Joe Watts

Football in Berkshire spoke to player/coach Joe Watts who said moving up the non league pyramid had been an ambition of the clubs for the last two or three seasons.

And if the promotion seems almost a little last minute, it looks unlikely to phase the club who posted a positive goal difference of 88 last season.

Watts said: “We are well prepared, we were confident we would be moved up. Pre season training will be starting next week and we have plenty of friendlies arranged against some good opposition.

“In terms of travelling, we actually hope there will be a little bit less travelling which is always a bonus!”

The new step 6 side will face Berkshire derbies against landlords Holyport next season as well as nearby Chalvey Sports, Woodley United, AFC Aldermaston and Wokingham & Emmbrook.
