This isn’t meant to sound condescending in the slightest but Northamptonshire side Brackley Town Saints weren’t in any pre season predictions for the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division title that Football in Bracknell saw.

Under Gordon Kille though, the club have quietly reached the summit of the the Premier Division and have stretched the points lead to seven after toppling previous leaders Ascot United with a 4-1 win over Tuffley Rovers on Saturday 13th October.

The team is a development side for Vanarama National League and FA Trophy holders Brackley Town who since promotion from Division 1 East in the summer of 2015 had finished 16th, 13th and 12th in the Hellenic Premier.

Football in Bracknell asked Kille, appointed in June, what had changed at the club. He said simply: “A better coaching structure. We wanted a solid platform for the team to work from. We have a strength and conditioning nutritionist coach and sports physiologist, on top of our other coaches. All doing it voluntarily.

“We added two experienced players to the team from local senior teams and got the best of last years under 18s with us. Other than that it’s the same team as last year.

“We are still a development team and regularly still have players from the current under 18s with us, learning from all the above. We are realistic. We haven’t yet played Ascot, Wantage, Bishops Cleeve and Binfield once more.”

He added: “I think Reading will not be the force they set out to be, but we set ourselves a target at the beginning of the season and at the moment we’re on track.”

Kille also commented on the mystery of midfielder James Watts, who the FA’s full time website was reporting had scored 52 goals already this season. He said: “I’d gone away for a week and somebody else had completed the FA whole game site and he’d scored one goal in that game and for some reason it was entered as 51!”
