Flying Windsor winger Dan Roberts stepped up three divisions on Saturday after signing dual registration forms with Slough Town of the Vanarama National League South.

Having also turned out for Bracknell Town and Berks County in recent seasons, Roberts performances have really caught the eye in what has arguably been a break out year with 25 goals in 34 games for Mick Woodham’s side.

Slough managers Neil Baker and Jon Underwood were clearly impressed saying recently: “He has electric pace with an eye for goal, and may offer us a different option to what we already have.”

Football in Bracknell caught up with Dan on Sunday and asked him about the experience with Slough that saw the Rebels concede a late late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Hampton & Richmond Borough.

What was it like on Saturday for you Dan?

It was such a good experience for me. It was only Thursday that I trained with them for the first time so to then be involved in a matchday so soon after was unreal. I just tried to take it all in and take as much from the day as possible to help me going forward.

You had Sean Fraser on the bench with you about to make his 300th appearance. Was that daunting at all?

No not at all. We spoke during the game and he was a top guy, making me feel very welcome, the same as the rest of the lads have done. and I’m buzzing for him to of reached 300 appearances, what an amazing milestone!

Was there a chance you might get on? Or was it clear from the start with Bakes and Unders?

Yes, I was told ‘be ready’ so there was a chance. But if I had of done it would of been a bonus, as the experience of being involved with the squad was the main thing for me to get a feel for what match day is all about at this level.

Back to Windsor on Tuesday, will the experience help you?

Definitely. I’m looking forward to going back and taking what I’ve already learnt into my performance for Windsor. And hopefully a win and a goal or two to go with it!

Windsor host East Berkshire neighbours Binfield at Stag Meadow on Tuesday night. Full midweek fixtures here.
