Met Police manager Gavin Macpherson has hailed striker Liam Ferdinand in an interview posted on the InYourArea website.

Ferdinand joined the Pitching In Southern League Premier South side in the summer having starred for Binfield in the clubs run to the FA Vase Final at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Macpherson said of Ferdinand who has scored a number of spectacular goals this season: “Liam scores the difficult ones and doesn’t tend to score the easy ones.

“He’s done well and plays on the half turn. He’s similar to Max Blackmore [ex-Met front man] and that was the idea. Mazza [Mazzone] and Max worked really well together and we tried to find the next one in Liam. We have played him slightly differently but we are delighted with him. He’s not been on the scoresheet for a little while so it was good to see him score.”

The Met are currently second in the division and eyeing a play-off spot with a place in the National League South at stake, but the blues lost the top-of-the-table clash with Farnborough 2-1 on Tuesday night.

In the same interview, Ferdinand spoke about Macpherson’s right-hand man Jon Nurse and how much he’d learned from the former Dagenham & Redbridge and Stevenage striker: “In terms of Nursey, I have definitely learned a lot this season from him and I would say it’s the first club I’ve been at in a couple of years where I feel like I’ve learned things about my game which is a credit to the coaching staff. I’m not knocking any previous coaches but the detail is there and the fact he’s a striker helps.”

Ferdinand scored twice at Wembley in May as Binfield lost the final 3-2 to Warrington Rylands, and has scored goals everywhere he’s been, whether it was with the Moles, Bracknell Town, Thatcham Town or Hungerford Town in the National League South.

We’ll certainly be keeping an eye on what the future holds for Ferdi.
