It was a tough night in the end for Binfield manager Roger Herridge who saw his side end up beaten finalists in the Reading Senior Cup for the second season in succession.

Opponents Henley Town staged a remarkable come back from 3-1 down that hinged largely on the dismissal of Jack Broome in the second half for a stamp on Grant Kemp.

We caught up with a disconsolate Herridge in the hotel bar at Madejski Stadium after the game and he was in an understandably reflective mood.

“We should be winning things and I need to convince myself after tonight’s disappointment that I am the man to make that happen”

“It’s a disappointing end to the season and I’m likely to be hurting for a while!

“The sending off changed the game as up until that point I could only see one winner. Ferdi’s [Liam Ferdinand] second goal just after gave us breathing space but full credit to Henley Town who made full use of their extra man.

“I thought Ferdi had won it for us in the dying minutes of normal time only to see his effort cleared off the line. Both sides looked tired in extra-time but Henley just had more legs than we did.

“Proud of my players who gave there all especially when down to 10 players, Ferdi especially who didn’t deserve to be on a losing side.

“Congratulations and well done to Craig [Sumner], Lee [Povey] and their players who were worthy winners in the end.

“It’s a time for reflection now, I’ve got a lot to think about. That’s three cup final defeats in my short time in charge at Binfield. We should be winning things and I need to convince myself after last nights disappointment that I am the man to make that happen”.
