The final game on grass at Bracknell Town’s Larges Lane ground will take place this weekend before the diggers move in and tear up the surface – a final chance to see the infamous ‘Bracknell bobble’.

And we’re absolutely delighted the final game will be the opening tie in the FootballinBracknell pre season tournament as Bracknell Town under 21s host Ascot United.

The club are urging supporters to get down to the club to say goodbye with four youth games from 9am and culminating in the FiB cup tie at 2pm

Larges Lane is being fully redeveloped this summer with an artificial surface laid and the pitch side buildings fully refurbished. The development was confirmed back in May by chairman Kayne Steinborn-Busse.

‘RIP the Bracknell bobble’

This weekend is the last time a player will be able to blame the random bounce for a poor touch at Larges Lane.

The ‘Bracknell bobble’ will be no more after Saturday.

It was a term coined during several particularly uneven years during the 2000s when any ball played along the ground had a very visible bobble to both supporters and players.

The pitch improved immeasurably in recent years thanks to the tireless work of a very small band of volunteers – from Tony Hardy to Chris Day and Mickey Bradley – who’s efforts produced probably the best surface ever at Larges Lane.

So this is it, farewell old friend!
