For years it was the scourge of the odd professional, a whole heap of semi-pro and Sunday League footballers. But we can categorically say this morning following a tweet from the Bracknell Town FC twitter, that the famous Bracknell bobble is dead.

And it’s not coming back.

The club tweeted this morning a video of what looks like tarmac (the research that went in to this article was negligible) being laid at the Larges Lane ground ahead of the artificial surface laying and grand opening in November.

Basically it’s a video of a machine laying hot stone on the ground, but it’s strangely satisfying.

In July, former players paid tribute to the ground with Adam Crittenden saying: “I enjoyed it because all the other teams hated it so much! There were always mistakes from the opposition defenders to make the most of.

“It was never an easy surface to play though and I’m sure the bobble cost me at least 10 goals a season but it will be great to see the club move forward and finally get the ground it deserves.”

We’ll miss the ‘bobble’, it had a certain non-league charm. But how excited are you about the future of Bracknell Town? Let us know in the comments below.
