Ascot United have announced the new manager for the first team at the Racecourse Ground following the departure of Jeff Lamb and Paul McGrotty on Wednesday morning.

The clubs website has announced that current Director of Football Neil Richards will take on the role from Monday 9th January.

The statement on ascotunited.net reads: “‘We are pleased to announce the appointment of Neil Richards as the new Ascot United first team manager and will take charge from Monday 9th January.

“Neil has been at Ascot United for 15 years and in time has undertaken a number of coaching and development roles across different age groups at the club. More recently he has managed the Under 23 Development squad and coached the Allied Counties Youth team. His current role as Director of Football has seen him continue to develop both our Junior and Youth structures, creating a pathway for our younger players to move into Senior Football.”

United have a home Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League tie with Royal Wootton Bassett Town on Saturday at the Racecourse which will be the final game in charge for Lamb, McGrotty and coach Derek Sweetman, while Richards first game in charge is likely to be Bluefin Sports Supplementary Cup tie at Chalfont Wasps on 21st January.
