Thames Valley Premier League side Berks County have confirmed the duo who will replace out going boss Robert Hunter at the John Nike Stadium in Bracknell, Berkshire.

County announced last week that Hunter was stepping down to move abroad, and have moved quickly to appoint the experienced local duo of Lee Simpson as manager and Ed Carpenter as assistant. Simpson has expressed his delight at joining County in a separate interview saying: “I am inheriting a tight-knit squad with great work ethic and potential, and I am looking forward to developing them further to help us progress on the pitch.”

Both men have significant experience locally with Bracknell Town while Simpson will continue his role with the Robins youth team and Carpenter was most recently assistant at Combined Counties League side Fleet Spurs.

A statement released by club chairman Richard Lloyd reads:

Berks County FC are delighted to announce the signing of Lee Simpson and Ed Carpenter as the football club’s new management duo. Lee Simpson as manager and Ed Carpenter as Assistant Manager.

Lee is a Uefa B license coach, most recently managing the Bracknell Town Development side winning the Hellenic Division 2 East and narrowly missing out on the Suburban Challenge Shield, as well as coaching in Fulham’s Academy. Lee will continue his work within the youth section at Bracknell Town.

Ed formerly managed Binfield’s reserves to a league title, also finishing Runners Up in the Hellenic League President’s Reserve Cup. Ed went on to manage Bracknell Town Reserves to a runners up league medal and a cup win. Eventually Ed took the first team role at Bracknell Town in short reign consolidating a mid-table side.

Lloyd said “We are delighted that Lee and Ed have joined the club, they are a successful pair who have been admired from afar by our committee. We hope that they can work with our current group of players, adding to the quality where necessary to carry this club to the level it should be given the size”

This is the first time the football club has dipped into the local pool of managers, usually looking to develop from within. The club is looking forward to a long and successful time under Simpson and Carpenter with the long term aim to develop John Nike Stadium or seek a suitable ground share.

Simpson and Carpenter take over with County 12th of 14 in the TVPL but on a good run having beaten Woodley United Royals twice, Mortimer and narrowly losing to Wright & Unity Sports in Hunters last game.
