Hellenic League Division 1 East side Wokingham & Emmbrook have confirmed they are planing to stay at step 6 for the 2018/19 season.

There were strong rumours prior to the release of the step 5 and 6 club allocations by the Football Association that the Sumas might have been relegated to step 7.

This was due in no small part to the expected merging of the Hellenic’s two Division 1’s to form a 20 team competition and necessitating lights for midweek week fixtures.

Speculation

All that proved to be pure speculation with Wokingham & Emmbrook – who do have planning permission for lights, placed in Division 1 East with the caveat they play st a ground with lights.

The club tweeted a statement from secretary Bob Good saying: “Wokingham & Emmbrook are committed to playing at step 6 next season and we will ground share. Statement once agreed. We will develop Lowther Road to stay at step 6 in the following season and we are aiming to be where we should be at step 5.”

Of course all this means at least one season away from Lowther Road, something that appeared to be at an end when planning permission for lights and a stand was granted after years sharing at Bracknell Town and Cantley Park. They had also shared at Henley Town, Egham Town and Flackwell Heath over the years since the closure of Finchampstead Road.

The club are yet to comment on where the ground share will be.
