Reading City’s versatile centre back Damien Smith has left the club according to a post from the club on twitter.

Smith joined the Scours Lane side in the summer from Bracknell Town along with former development team managers Rob Creech and Andy Findlay.

The centre back has played 15 times for City this season and started Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Bishop’s Cleeve.

Smith tweeted: “It’s been a tough decision but I’ve decide to step away from Reading City due to personal reasons.”

He added his thanks to the clubs managers and coaches this season including current boss Simon Johnson.

Reading City’s official account responded: “Reading City would like to thank Damien Smith for his commitment this season, it is a shame to see you leave, good luck for 2019..!”

Earlier in his career, Smith was an all action defender and midfielder for Bracknell in the Southern League, who he also captained during a later spell at Larges Lane. Smith also turned out for Fleet Town and Godalming Town.

Speaking to Football in Bracknell, Smith said he hoped he would only be out of football temporarily. He said: “I still feel I have a lot to offer.”
