Wokingham & Emmbrook’s 2019/20 campaign began on Tuesday night with a visit to Penn & Tylers Green in the Bluefin Sport Hellenic League Challenge Cup and came away with a 2-1 win courtesy of goals from Jake White and Luke Scope.

The Sumas move on to the second round but of far more significance is the visit of AFC Aldermaston which is not only the Division One East opener for Dan Bateman’s side but also the clubs first under the new Lowther Road lights.

Work has been ongoing over the summer to install seats, hard standing and lights at the ground which forms part of the Emmbrook Sports & Social Club and is shared with the cricket club.

Those lights were officially switched on at the start of June by long time supporter Richard Croydon and now the club face two home fixtures in a matter of days after spending the best part of two decades on the road.

The Sumas nomadic existence took in stays in four counties and numerous clubs in Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Surrey including last season with Bracknell Town.

The journey home started in 2016 when Wokingham Borough Council granted the club permission to install floodlights amongst the other necessary requirements to play step 6 football and now, Friday 9th August is the night the club will finally and permanently return to the town.
