Vanarama National League South side Hungerford Town have launched a new live match day commentary service as the Crusaders bid for survival in 2020.

Live coverage of the Crusaders 2-2 draw with St Albans City was broadcast through the mixlr.com website used by a number of non league clubs.

The young man on the end of the microphone for the Crusaders was the clubs match reporter Ciaran Morrison who said to Football in Berkshire, that launching the service all came about very quickly.

He said: “It was a new experience on Saturday but seems to have gone down well.

“It only just became an option recently with equipment becoming avaliable. We are looking to do more of it in the future but more at home games.”

Morrison, who has written previously for FiB, said he only found out he’d be commentating on the St Albans game shortly before kick but was able to call upon a bit of experience from working alongside professional commentator Jim Proudfoot: “I only got told I was doing it about an hour to kick off yesterday so virtually no preparation. If I had preparation I would’ve tried to got stats about players and recent history between the two teams to read throughout commentary.

“The idea to start came from my media co-partner Oliver Sweeney and he has the equipment to be able to do it. It seemed to go down well with people at the club so hopefully it’s here to stay.

“I did spend a day at Bournemouth vs Man City earlier in the season with commentator Jim Proudfoot so he told me a few things about commentary that I tried to put into practice.”

Several Hungerford Town supporters tweeted their appreciation of the service with Martyn Leach – who recently contributed to FiB’s players of the decade piece – among them.
