Southern League South Division One side Thatcham Town have begun their search for a new manager following the departure of Danny Robinson.

Robinson took over the reigns at Vanarama National League South side and West Berkshire neighbours Hungerford Town over the weekend – a step up of two divisions and a golden opportunity for the now former Kingfishers boss.

In a statement released on the Thatcham club website on Sunday, chairman Dave Melin revealed that a number of off the field issues had meant a new contract with the FA Vase winning boss was not finalised: “We had been in contract talks with Danny for some time but the current pandemic and the uncertainty around the perilous state of non-league football, coupled with the club being closed for a few months had not led to a conclusion.”

Thatcham were top of the Southern League South Division One at the point the season was declared null and void with the blues looking a good bet for promotion to step 3, the highest level the club would have ever played at – something Melin hoped Robinson would have been part of: “Just over a year ago when I was appointed as Thatcham Town chairman, I met with Danny and his coaching team to look at what was possible for the upcoming season. Danny and I had a shared vision which was for the club to play their football at the highest possible level. It is no secret that Danny has always wanted to test himself at the highest level from a management perspective and we both hoped that we could do that together.”

Melin also revealed the search for a new boss was already underway: “Today our search for a new manager begins. Due to the increased profile of the club, we have already had a number of enquiries and we look forward to speaking with interested parties.”

Anyone wishing to apply for the role should send their CV to chairman@thatchamtown.com with a covering letter.
