Binfield FC are known as the Moles, we’ve seen Moles on roundabouts and Moles in Tesco in recent weeks in the build-up to the FA Vase Final, but what is the history behind the club’s nickname?

Who better than Binfield chairman Bob Bacon to explain all? “The club, which is 129 years old, used to play at the cricket club.

“A feature of the pitch was a multitude of mole hills actually on the pitch. Before games, the players used to have to stamp down the mole hills to start a game.

“We moved out to our current ground 30 years ago. We still do have moles, which fortunately stay outside of the pitch, and we have a professional mole catcher come in to humanely remove the moles and rehouse them, out in the wild.”

There you have it!
