Slough Town’s appeal against a fine imposed for failing to fulfil fixtures during the abandoned Vanarama National League South season has failed.

The Rebels along with 11 other clubs in the National League had appealed the verdict to the Football Association, but the original ruling has been upheld and those clubs ordered to pay costs of between £1,200 and £1,600.

BBC Three Counties Radio’s Ollie Bayliss, who has been following the appeals closely, wrote on Twitter: “11 National League clubs have lost their appeals. Clubs were found guilty of not fulfilling fixtures this season, mostly whilst clubs were voting to end the season. They’ve been ordered to pay costs (£1,200-£1,600 per club). Their appeal fee (£250) will not be returned.”

A statement released on the Slough Town website said the club was ‘saddened and disappointed’ but heartened by displays of solidarity from other clubs: “We were informed this morning that the Club’s appeal to the Football Association against The National League’s decision resulting from the Independent Panel hearing to sanction the Club under National League Rule 8.39 has been rejected.

“We are extremely saddened and disappointed by the decision, over which we have no further course of appeal. However, we have been heartened by displays of solidarity from other clubs and people in the game who share our sense of injustice at these sanctions.

“Our focus must now be on looking ahead with excitement to the challenges of the 2021/22 season, and welcoming our supporters back to Arbour Park.”
