It’s been an unexpectedly busy week behind the scenes for Wokingham & Emmbrook’s chairman Steve Williams and President Mark Ashwell after the resignation of the clubs managers Dan Bateman and Matt Eggleston on Sunday night.

The Sumas quickly advertised for applications from prospective new managers and now Williams has provided an update to Football in Berkshire with the new Combined Counties League season and FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round looming in the next two weeks.

He said: “We have been sent a number of good applications and will be going through them this week with a view to interviews and making a decision as soon as possible.”

The Sumas chairman also confirmed that senior Wokingham & Emmbrook players Liam Eagle and Jack Mullen were ‘holding the fort’ along with new coach Sam Wilson and lead the side in midweek against CCL Division One Eversley & California.

However, the friendly with neighbours Bracknell Town on Tuesday 3rd August has been cancelled.
