The end of Vanarama National League side Maidenhead United’s famous old York Road ground is a step closer after proposals to move to Braywick Park took a step forward this week.

The Magpies released a statement saying that an agreement had been reached with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) to purchase 3.7 hectares of the park.

A statement posted on the club website said: “Maidenhead United Football Club (MUFC) is delighted to confirm we have now finalised an agreement with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM), subject to planning, to acquire 3.7 hectares of Braywick Park for the delivery of a new community stadium incorporating a range of football, athletics, and wider wellbeing facilities.”

The move has been long-mooted and would see the National League side move into the park that also provides a home for Maidenhead Rugby Club, Athletics Club and importantly for away supporters, a Toby Carvery.

York Road has been the home of football in Maidenhead since 1871 and home to Maidenhead United following the merger of Maidenhead FC and Maidenhead Norfolkians in 1919.
