The 2016/17 will be over before we know it, but right now there is still so much still to play for for our non-league clubs locally.

Ascot United, Binfield, Bracknell Town and Wokingham & Emmbrook are still involved in various cup competitions so we thought we’d take a look at what possible cup glories await them all before the season is consigned to the annals of history..

If you want to catch up on what’s happening in the Reading Senior Cup, you can do that here.

Ascot United

The Yellamen are the only confirmed finalists of the quartet having reached the final of the Perpetua Press (UHL) Floodlit Cup final.

We watched their semi-final against Flackwell Heath which was both dramatic and entertaining. The Yellamen trailed 1-0 but fought back to win 2-1 as substitute Joe Yeates (usually a central defender) was bought on for a cameo up front and duly netted the winner in stoppage time. It was a really neat finish too.

They will face Brimscombe & Thrupp in the final after the Gloucestershire side overcame Thatcham United 4-2 in their semi-final.

We are still waiting to hear where and when that final will be played but we will keep you posted.

Binfield

The Moles are still in the Reading Senior Cup and will host local rivals Wokingham & Emmbrook in the quarter final on Monday 18th April.

They will of course start as favourites but will the fact that it will be their fifth match in ten days have an impact? The Sumas themselves have five matches in twelve days so not much better but it is ever so slightly more advantageous – and it is of course a repeat of the 2015 final which Wokingham won 2-1.

The two league matches between the sides have been close. Wokingham were defeated 2-1 at home early in the season before the teams shared four goals in a 2-2 draw on Boxing Day at Stubbs Lane.

Whoever wins this encounter will make the short journey to Palmer Park to face Highmoor IBIS in the semi-final with a place in the show piece final at Reading’s Madejski Stadium up for grabs.

Bracknell Town

The Robins are still involved in two cup competitions, being in the quarter final stage of both.

Tomorrow night (Thursday) they host Wokingham & Emmbrook in the last eight of the Bluefin Sports (UHL) Supplementary Challenge Cup.

It’s exactly a week after their previous encounter which ten man Bracknell won 2-1 despite having captain Carl Davies dismissed just shy of half time.

Fairford Town have already defeated Cheltenham Saracens in the quarter final whilst the other two quarter finals feature Milton United vs. Headington Amateurs (7th April) and Didcot Town Reserves vs. Holyport (12th April).

The Robins are the highest position team left so must fancy their chances if they can see off Wokingham tomorrow night.

There is also a Reading Senior Cup quarter final to play as Henley Town will host Bracknell on Wednesday 20th April. The winners will face either Westwood United or Marlow United (both Thames Valley Football League sides) in the semi-final for the right to play Highmoor-IBIS, Binfield or Wokingham & Emmbrook in the Madejski Stadium final.

As already covered above its two away quarter finals for the Sumas to look forward to facing up to Bracknell tomorrow evening in the Bluefin Sports (UHL) Supplementary Challenge Cup whilst it’s Binfield in the Reading Senior Cup last eight.

Having won the RSC for the past four years, the Sumas will be hoping to make it five in a row.
