Tomorrow is supposed to be the final round of Uhlsport Hellenic League fixtures and such is the genius of the fixture scheduling, Binfield, Bracknell Town, Finchampstead and Wokingham & Emmbrook are all at home.
That does not help any of the clubs as they compete with each other for the local spectator to attend.
It’s all a bit of a damp squib in the Premier Division with all three sides already occupying their final position.
Binfield host Longlevens AFC with hosts in eighth place, three points and one place above their visitors.
By virtue of the Moles superior goal difference, anything less than a ten goal victory for ‘Levens would see Binfield stay above them.
Likewise, seventh place Highworth are three points ahead of Roger Herridge’s side but have a goal difference 24 goals better so it’s just about a foregone conclusion that Binfield will finish in eighth place.
Longlevens beat Bracknell Town 1-0 at Larges Lane last weekend and are difficult to grind down and you fancy them to prevail once again as Herridge focuses on Monday night’s Reading Senior Cup quarter final against former club Wokingham & Emmbrook.
Bracknell have had a good midweek picking up four points from a possible six. Tuesday saw then hold second place Thatcham Town to a 1-1 draw as Ben Poynter cancelled out former Robins favourite Shane Cooper-Clark’s opener.
Poynter was on the score sheet again on Thursday netting the second in a 3-0 victory over Royal Wootton Bassett Town along with goals from Johnnie Dyer and substitute Sean Hanley.
That victory saw the Robins leapfrog over Bassett into fourteenth place and that is where they will finish. That’s a fantastic achievement with the side stuck in nineteenth place when manager Mark Tallentire took over.
For visitors Milton United tomorrow, it’s manager Paul Bedwell’s last game in charge after three years at the helm so they will want to finish strongly in a season which sees them relegated in eighteenth place.
Bracknell too have a cup match on Monday night, away to Didcot Town Reserves in the Bluefin Sports Supplementary Cup semi-final but you fancy they will have too much for United.
Wokingham & Emmbrook host the big and physical Lydney Town side with the Sumas cut adrift at the bottom of the table. It’s been a long season for them with plenty of player availability issues but their recent form is good and they will want to finish on a high.
In addition, it’s a final chance for players to impress ahead of Monday’s semi-final derby so I fancy them to claim a point.
In Division One East, Finchampstead host Penn & Tylers Green with the visitors knowing victory will earn them the league title.
It will be a great season if P&T do secure the title as their reserve side have just been crowned Division Two East champions.
Penn were imperious last night (Thursday) routing Didcot Reserves 6-0 so we fully expect them to claim the victory and the title.
