Bracknell Town travel to Didcot Town Reserves this evening (7.45pm kick-off) in the Bluefin Sports Supplementary Challenge Cup semi-final.
Here’s what to expect from the clash that will put the winners in a final clash with Fairford Town.
Goals, goals, goals
Didcot’s last eight matches have seen 37 goals either scored or conceded by them. They have suffered 7-3, 5-1 and 6-0 defeats whilst also winning 4-3 in the last round when Holyport fought back from three goals down to level only to fall to a late Reserves winner.
The Robins last eight matches have seen them involved in 30 goals. They too were involved in a high-scoring match previous round seeing off local rivals Wokingham & Emmbrook 7-1. Their final league match of this campaign was a 5-1 victory over already relegated Milton United.
Impressive Poynter on the bench
Ben Poynter has been a revelation playing seven times for Bracknell with three starts and four appearances off the bench and has scored six goals.
Speaking to the Bracknell News about Poynter, Robins manager Mark Tallentire said “He has done exceptionally well. He is very composed, technically good and I think we have unearthed a little diamond”.
However, Poynter played 120 minutes yesterday morning as his Sunday League side Whitegrove won the Berks & Bucks County Sunday Junior Trophy final on penalties, beating P&IC United 4-3 on spot kicks after the match ended 2-2.
Poynter looked dead on his feet at the end so we’ll be surprised if he starts this evening.
A sponsored stadium
A rare thing at non league level but thanks to a sponsorship deal, Didcot’s Town’s ground is named the ‘Draycott Engineering Loop Meadow Stadium’.
Draycott Engineering took over the stadium naming rights in 2013 and it’s not the first time the ground has been sponsored. The club previously had a deal with npower which ended in 2013 after seven years.
With Bracknell looking to redevelop Larges Lane, naming rights for the stadium will surely be something the club look into.
