Saturday sees Bracknell Town make their longest trip of the season in a near four hour round trip to deepest Gloucestershire to face Lydney Town in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division.

At least it will give the Robins plenty of time on their travels to ponder Tuesday night’s disappointing 1-1 draw with struggling Henley Town and work out what needs to be improved on.

The fact that Henley spent more than half the match with ten men and that Bracknell failed to create too much despite very strong attacking players tells a story and it was TJ Bohane who equalised from the penalty spot after Adam Cornell had been fouled.

Last season’s encounter between the sides saw the Robins recover on more than one occasion with a late George Short goal ensuring it finished level at 4-4. Short and Cornell both scored twice that day.

After a brilliant December for Mark Tallentire’s side, the bad weather saw few matches played and Bracknell found themselves in a rut but the 4-4 draw with Lydney proved to be a catalyst as they then went on an amazing run to secure their league survival.

Lydney started the season fairly brightly but have lost their last two league matches as both Henley Town and Highworth Town prevailed 2-1 but Town did record a fantastic 2-1 victory over Chertsey Town in the FA Vase last weekend.

Neither Ascot United nor Binfield are in action this weekend but the stand out match in the division sees third placed Thame United host second placed Thatcham Town.
