Local derby at Finchampstead FC and a tough test for Wokingham & Emmbrook

It’s a break from league action tomorrow for Wokingham & Emmbrook as they entertain Premier Division side Lydney Town in the Bluefin Sports Hellenic Challenge Cup.

It’s undoubtedly a tough tie for Clive McNelly’s side but they will be delighted it’s their opponents who make the four hour round trip from deepest Gloucestershire and that it’s not the Sumas making the journey.

Last weekend saw AFC Aldermaston beat the Sumas by the odd goal in five and after three successive defeats in all competitions, McNelly will be keen for his side to get back to winning ways.

The standout fixture for us in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East sees Finchampstead host Sandhurst Town in an all FootballinBracknell covered sides affair.

Finchampstead started very slowly but have won two of their last four matches with the other two both narrow 2-1 losses at the hands of second placed Headington Amateurs in league and cup action. Jon Laugharne’s side have also added former Binfield midfielder Chris Dean to their ranks this week.

The Fizzers form has been a little bit mixed of late but they do have two wins and one draw from their last four league matches to call upon so it’s a tough one for us to call, we wouldn’t be surprised if this finishes in a draw.

Woodley United currently sit in fifth place but with a maximum nine points from nine and Saturday promises to be their hardest match to date when second placed Bicester Town visit Rivermoor Stadium.

It’s four wins from five matches for Town who also finished runners up last season too but a win for Michael Herbert’s over Bicester would really signal that Woodley are a force to be reckoned with this campaign.

Having come up from the Thames Valley Premier League where the finished in seventh place last term, AFC Aldermaston were maybe expected by some to struggle but they have flourished so far and they are currently sixth with three wins and three defeats from their six matches.

They beat Wokingham last weekend as we have already alluded to and that came after three defeats in a row in all competitions so manager Kieran Jennings  – who we interviewed here following the game against Woodley – will have been thrilled to see his side get back to winning ways.

Their visitors Holyport are a bit up and down and Jennings will be confident of making it two wins in a row.
