It will have felt like light-years since Bracknell Sunday teams made their final passes to close last season that, for most, was April.

At long last, though, the new season is almost upon us as the first round of fixtures will be played this weekend and we take a look at some of the season’s openers whilst indulging in one or two predictions along the way.

The Premier Division’s opening day sees a mouth-watering fixture between last season’s runners-up, erstwhile Champions for the previous 4 seasons, FC Fernhill and newly promoted Crowthorne Inn, who start only their second season as a team. Fernhill will be desperate to regain the champions mantle wrested away from them last season whilst their visitors will be keen to build upon an impressive first season last time out.

Elsewhere in the top division, Senior Cup winners of last season Morale Madrid open with a home fixture against Golden Farmer Rangers and Intercity, another team winning promotion in their first season, entertain a re-formed Twigg Vets.

In Division One, an interesting looking fixture pits Loveman United, a new team for this season and featured later in this article, against Finchampstead Athletic Reserves. Other fixtures include relegated Raglan against promoted Binfield Royals.

Picks of the day’s division 2 fixtures sees Bracknell St-Germain and 3M entertain Warfield United and Berks County respectively.

It will be interesting to see how Silver Birch fair this season having reinforced their squad over summer with some experienced Bracknell Sunday League performers and they open with an away fixture against Woodley Saints.

Featured Team – Loveman United

The team was formed by mates and former Whitegrove players Jay Lovejoy and Lee Blackman primarily to raise funds for their chosen charity SANDS having both, with their respective wives Leigh and Jodie, suffered the heartache of losing unborn babies. With the support of Bracknell Town FC a match was played between Loveman and Whitegrove towards the back end of last season that impressively raised funds totalling over £6000 for SANDS.

Following this match a decision was made to play competitively and enter a team into the Sunday League. The team have benefitted from the demise of Whitegrove FC inviting a number of their former players to join them along with the capture of Gary Calloway as captain. Co-founder Jay Lovejoy commented, “We’re really looking forward to playing and being competitive. We’ve been given a tough opening fixture and will relish the challenge. Our aim will be to enjoy playing with friends and family and to raise more funds for SANDS throughout the season”.

Loveman are managed by Andy Giles, assisted by Tom McGuire and will play their home fixtures at Great Holland Rec.

FiB wish all teams every success for their coming season!
