This weekend sees a number of Bracknell Sunday League teams set off on the trail of County Cup glory in Berks & Bucks 1st round action that includes Intercity, Bracknell Cavaliers, Finchampstead Athletic Reserves, Sandhurst FFC, AFC Crowthorne, Woodley United Reserves and Bracknell Corinthians. An all-Bracknell tie sees Hurricanes (of division 1) take on Bracknell Saint Germain (of division 2). Could there be an upset there!? Football in Bracknell wishes all our team’s success in this year’s competition.

The Premier Divisions top fixture is undoubtedly Twigg Reserves v. Crowthorne Inn that pits together two unbeaten sides, both having played twice, with Inn looking to maintain their 100% start. Elsewhere FC Fernhill take on Morale Madrid whilst the only other fixture in the Division sees Golden Farmer Rangers play FC Meta.

An intriguing fixture in division 2 sees two teams promoted from Division 2 again lock-horns as Binfield Royals (Champions) play WAB (3rd placed) in a game that could see either team take top spot with a win. Otherwise in the division Berks All Stars, this week’s featured team, and looking to get their league campaign off and running following defeat last week, take on relegated Raglan.

The teams currently occupying the top two positions in Division 2 and both with a 100% record after two games played face each other as Bracknell Athletic play new boys Athletico Ascot. Both teams have scored goals aplenty so far and this should be an entertaining game. Warfield United (3rd) could capitalise themselves pending the result of the game between the top 2 with a win against Braybrooke Wanders.

Again the top teams face each other in Division 3 as free-scoring Woodley Saints take on WAB Reserves. The other teams with 2 wins from 2, Bracknell Corinthians, travel to play Bearwood Wanderers.

The League have this week announced the return of Whitegrove to the League and Whitegrove Panthers, believed to be the clubs under 21’s team, having been handed their first league fixture, in Division 4, away to FC Harmanswter (Ed – Will be interesting to see how that one goes!!)

Now in their fourth season, All Stars have already won promotion twice and have added silverware to their cabinet by defeating Binfield Royals in this seasons curtain-raiser Dave Scovell Memorial Goals Trophy by 2-0.

In their inaugural season (2014-15) All Stars battled valiantly neck and neck with eventual champions Whitegrove, securing runners-up spot and promotion at the first time of asking. The following season (2015-16) All Stars were again locked in a battle this time with four teams (Finchampstead Reserves, Whitegrove again, Wokingham & Emmbrook TMW and Bracknell Forest) missing out on the 4th promotion place by a solitary point. Season 2016-17 however saw All Stars this time clinching their second promotion, finishing runners-up to Binfield Royals, scoring an impressive 94 goals in 22 league fixtures.

Calvin Grainger is a manager who wears his heart on his sleeve and one of the Leagues most animated managers in the League, will have been disappointed his team lost their opening league fixture of the campaign (2-3 against old foes Finchampstead Athletic Reserves). One thing’s for sure – Berkshire All Stars have a talented bunch of players who play entertaining football and will pose a challenge this season in what will prove to be a very competitive Division 1.
