All three of the Uhlsport Hellenic Football League’s surviving FA Vase competitors are in action on Tuesday night as Bracknell Town and Windsor clash at Larges Lane for the first time since the 2009/10 season and Thatcham Town make the trip up to Flackwell Heath.

A lot has happened since the Robins and Royalists last met – Windsor (then with the ‘& Eton’ suffix) finished top of the Southern Football League Division 1 South & West while Bracknell finished rock bottom and were relegated to the Hellenic League.

Since then the Robins have dropped as far as Division 1 East but now sit pushing for promotion in the Hellenic Premier and are third favourites for the aforementioned Vase. The Royalists in contrast folded halfway through the season after their promotion (2010/11) season due to mounting debts and were reformed in 2011 as a Combined Counties Premier Division side.

For reference that season, Windsor won the 09/10 meetings 6-0 and 5-1.

None of that really has any bearing on Tuesday evenings game aside from being a brief history lesson, the long and short of things is that it’s good to see two old rivals reunited.

Bracknell are free scoring at the moment but while the visitors can’t match their firepower, they have one of the tightest defences in the league and the guile of Barry Hayles up front.

Elsewhere, Bracknell’s promotion rivals Flackwell and Thatcham meet at Wilks Park where a win for either side will – temporarily at least – move them back in to second place.

In Division 1 East, AFC Aldermaston are back in midweek action after a blank Saturday and will visit the enigma that is Wallingford Town.

The Atom Men have won their last three games while Wallingford have won two of their last four since a heavy (but excellently reported) defeat in the Floodlit Cup to Highworth and were beaten heavily in the league by Virginia Water in mid November.
