January’s always a big month for football as it plays cat and mouse with the weather and various on going cup competitions so here’s our preview of five of the biggest games coming up during the month excluding the three FA Vase ties that we’ve previewed elsewhere on the site.

As ever, please especially at this time of year check with the host club before you travel – and take a look through our Away Day guide section for details on locations, ticket prices and the cost of that all important burger.

Highmoor IBIS vs Woodley United

Saturday 6th January, kick off 3pm at Scours Lane. Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division. See Woodley’s full fixture list here.

Synopsis: Landlords against tenants in this one as bottom side Highmoor host their room mates Woodley – both in desperate need of the points. Woodley have the upper hand by virtue of sitting three points further ahead of IBIS but if you plan to head to this one it will definitely be worth checking to see if it’s on before you travel.

Bracknell Town vs Slough Town

Tuesday 9th January 2018, kick off 7.45pm at Larges Lane. Berks & Bucks County Senior Cup Quarter Final

Synopsis: The quarter final we all wanted as Bracknell Town host this season’s big FA Cup story Slough Town, not to mention the fact the Rebels are managed by two former Larges Lane favourites in Neil Baker and Jon Underwood but new signing Ben Harris is Cup tied having previously featured for Ascot. Bracknell have already beaten higher opposition in the competition and it promises to be a high quality fixture between two sides very used to an artificial surface.

Bracknell Town vs Lydney Town

Saturday 13th January, kick off 3pm at Larges Lane. Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division. See Bracknell’s full fixture list here.

Synopsis: By this point Bracknell will be in the last 16 of the Vase or not but more importantly in need of a return to winning ways in the league after defeat last time out. Lydney did Bracknell a huge favour last season when it looked like the Robins had thrown away the title – holding Thame United to a 2-2 draw but Bracknell need the points to get the dream of promotion back on track.

Binfield vs Woodley United

Saturday 20th January, kick off 3pm at Hill Farm Lane. Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division. See Binfield’s full fixture list here.

Synopsis: A good old local derby between two sides who’ve met twice already this season – winning a game each. Woodley need points to move away from the bottom while the Moles will be eager to cement their top six position. Adding spice to the occasion will be Binfield striker Ian Davies who has played for both sides this season.

Sandhurst Town vs Wokingham & Emmbrook

Saturday 20th January, kick off 3pm at Bottom Meadow. Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East. See Sandhurst’s full fixture list here, Wokingham’s fixtures are here.

Synopsis: There’s not a great historic rivalry between these two sides who have normally been separated by leagues but both are upwardly mobile and probably should be in and amongst the top four come the end of the season.
