This weekend FA Vase Second Round Qualifying fixtures are being played up and down the country. Berkshire still has 3 Step 6 sides left in the competition, all of whom are in action this weekend.

AFC Aldermaston welcome local foes to the Rec Soc, in the form of Binfield. The Moles have started their Hellenic Premier season strongly, they sit second in the table and are yet to be defeated in the league and they got to this stage of the FA Vase with an Extra Time victory over Virigina Water. The Atomics are making their bow in the competition for this season as they had a bye in the previous round.

Holyport travel to Northamptonshire for their tie with Wellingborough Town. Wellingborough, nicknamed the Doughboys, play in the Step 5 United Counties Premier Division and they have started the season strongly. They are undefeated in the league and currently sit 3rd in their table with 11 points from 5 games. Port were narrowly edged out of the Floodlit Cup on Tuesday, loosing on penalties to Wallingford Town, so they will be looking for better fortunes against some tough opponents on Saturday.

On Sunday Wokingham & Emmbrook host Hellenic Division One West side Thornbury Town at Lowther Road. Thornbury’s form is hard to determine as they have only played two league games so far this season, recording one win and one defeat, but they did reach this stage in the competition with a thumping 6-2 win over fellow Division One West side Cheltenham Saracens in the previous round. The Sumas will be hoping for a repeat performance of their previous round where they defeated Western League Premier Division side Chipping Sodbury Town.

County Cup ties

Away from the FA Vase, there is some other cup action at the Rivermoor as Woodley United take on Wallingford Town in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy. The Kestrels may be glad of a break from league actions as they have only taken 1 point in their last 4 games, a run that has seen them drop to 15th in the standings. Wally are just a place above Woodley in the table, but they will be looking to get their second cup win in Berkshire in 5 days after beating Holyport on Tuesday.

The other Step 6 side playing in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy is Langley who make the trip to Thames Valley Premier League side Windlesham United. Langley have endured a tough start to their first season in the Hellenic Division One East, having lost all their matches so far. Windlesham play at the Chobham Recreation Ground in Surrey and are currently mid table in the Thames Valley Premier, having won one and lost one game so far. Langley will look to kick start their season with a fixture against opposition from they Step below them.
