If Bracknell Town are to advance in the 2016/17 Emirates FA Cup they’ll have to do it the hard way after they drew Hellenic Premier League runners-up Thatcham Town in the Extra Preliminary Round this afternoon.

The Robins will meet Thatcham Town at Waterside Park on Saturday 6th August – and couldn’t have had a tougher draw after pulling the West Berkshire side out of the velvet bag.

Last season, Bracknell and Thatcham were the areas top performing sides in the competition – both reaching the First Qualifying Round with Shane Cooper-Clark (pictured celebrating above) influential in Bracknell’s success.

Bracknell do have some inside knowledge though having signed former Blues striker Ian Davies over the summer, and have been busy adding members of Ascot United’s celebrated FA Vase squad to their own.

If they do make it through Mark Tallentire’s side face a reunion with old Ryman League foes Egham Town. See the full draw for our local club here.

Binfield

The Moles have faired a bit better. Boss Roger Herridge was crossing his fingers for a home tie in at least one of the two competitions drawn today and the FA Cup duly obliged with a home draw against recently relegated North Greenford United.

That’s where the kindness ends though for the Moles, winning the Extra Preliminary Round tie pitches them against Hellenic League champions Kidlington in the Preliminary Round.

B3018 Derby

The good news though was the FA Vase draw, which has thrown up the tantalising prospect of an East Berks derby should Bracknell get past Hook Norton and Binfield do the same to Buckingham Athletic then the two will meed in the Second Qualifying Round.
