Following the news that Bracknell Town & District Sunday League side Sunningdale & Wentworth are to fold ahead of the new season, the clubs departing players have paid tribute to stalwart Nick Carpenter and manager Alan Matthias.

The tribute reads:

Formally ‘Bagshot Road FC’ they became Sunningdale & Wentworth FC following a lucrative sponsorship deal with Sunningdale & Wentworth Roofing which was believed to be in the region of endless amounts of Lucozade, Jaffa Cakes and a free bar after a cup final win. A merge of Bagshot and FC Diligent saw Sunningdale & Wentworth born.

Prolific in cup games and league games (before Christmas’s), the Premier League however remained elusive to the boys. After the cup final win in May it seemed like a good time to move on to new challenges for the players.

From Sam Walters broken leg to the Berks and Bucks cup final win we’ve been through it all!

The players want it noted that a massive thank you, total respect and immense gratitude to Nick Carpenter for all he’s done for the club over the last 8 years as well as Alan Matthias WHO’S trophy haul speaks for itself.

The Bracknell Sunday League constitution as it was before Sunningdale’s withdrawal is here. Have you taken our Sunday League grounds quiz?
