There was a surprise visitor to Larges Lane on Saturday for Bracknell Town’s 4-1 Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League win over Oxford City Nomads.

None other than former Robins captain and centre-back Neil Baker, currently joint manager at Evo-Stik Southern League Premier side Slough Town with another former Bracknell favourite, Jon Underwood.

Rest assured though Robins fans, we spoke to ‘Bakes’ and he assured us he was just catching up with friends and checking out the new facility after watching a friendly at Slough – who were without a competitive game on Saturday.

The Slough boss told us: “We had a friendly in Slough early on and Bracknell was a convenient stop off on the way home.

“I only stayed for the first half but it was great to see the new ground, the pitch is similar to what we have at Slough and it was good to see a few familiar faces”.

Baker and Underwood took over at Slough in 2013/14 – moving across from Godalming Town, and lead the Rebels to Southern League Division 1 play-off glory in their first season, establishing the club in the Premier Division and overseeing the clubs return to the borough and their brand new Arbour Park ground after decades away.

Baker was a regular for Bracknell in three spells at Larges Lane in the 2000s after originally signing for former Farnborough Town manager Alan Taylor, and was part of the team that reached the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup in 2003/04 against Barnet.
