Woodley United have had a superb season winning promotion to the Hellenic Premier Division and lifting the Berks & Bucks County Intermediate Cup with a come from behind 2-1 victory over Mortimer at Larges Lane.

Instrumental in all of that has been manager Michael Herbert who took a side that had twice finished bottom of Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East in the last three seasons during the summer of 2016.

Herbert set about rebuilding a side and has succeeded in creating a team spirit that has seeped through on to this very website with some of our ‘most read’ content being the off field antics of the Kestrels players.

There’s the infamous Justin Bieber forfeit, Josh Drew’s turn as the Fresh Prince and highlights of the County Cup Final.

Herbert has been front and centre in all of that and has quite rightly been nominated in the category of ‘Manager of the Year’ in the Bracknell Football Awards.

The submission we received said: “It was Michael’s first season as manager of Woodley United first team and his first season at managing at Step 6 level of football. He took a team that finished bottom of Hellenic League Division 1 East in 2015/16 to a runners up position on goal difference with equal points as champions in 2016/17. In addition managed the team to success in winning Berks & Bucks FA Saturday Intermediate Cup.”
