Something a little different on Saturday afternoon as some of the Thames Valley Premier League’s top players bid to represent England in the 2017/18 UEFA Regions Cup.

A squad of the Thames Valley Premier League’s best players will take on their counterparts from the Spartan South Midlands League on Saturday at Scours Lane in Reading on Saturday afternoon (ko 3pm) in the First Round of the FA Inter-League Cup – the tournament that decides the English representatives for the European tournament.

The TVPL squad is managed by Reading YMCA’s Karl Curtis and he is assisted by Matt Letts Marlow United the pair will choose a squad of players for the match made up from Premier Division players.

The TVPL sent us a potential squad that includes: Peter Barnes (Westwood United), Jamaal Whight (Highmoor Ibis), Joe Jarra, Ryan Britnell, Quam(ani) Thomas, Liam Bushay, Sudariu Catalin, James Hardie (all Marlow United), Mark Froude, Jamie Piercy, Nick Reynolds, Jordon Cox, Matthew Drake, Ryan Adams, Lorenzo Medford, Dan Donegan (all Reading YMCA), Carl Jenner, Danny Langford (both Newbury), Frank Dillon (Woodcote Stoke Row), Monay Mills-Chandler (Wright & Unity).

What is the FA Inter-League Cup?

From Wikipedia: The FA Inter-League Cup (formerly known as the FA National League System Cup or FA NLS Cup) is a football competition run by The Football Association. It was created in the 2003/04 season to provide an English representative in the UEFA Regions’ Cup.

From us.. the FAILC is held every two years, alternating with the URC.

Last seasons representatives in the UEFA Regions Cup was the West Yorkshire League who narrowly missed out on the Finals, denied by Russia following a 2-2 draw in Bucharest. They had beaten the Teesside League 3-2 in the 2016 FAILC Final.

The TVPL side has never reached the final since the tournament started in 2003.
