Last Saturday Thatcham Town defeated Brimscombe & Thrupp to extend a remarkable run of form that has seen them win twenty consecutive matches in all competitions. This excellent run of form has led to them winning the prestigious “Tony Incenzo’s Non-League Tea of the Week” award on Talksport 2.

The Kingfishers’ winning streak has seen a pair of strikers who are very familiar to those involved with football in the Bracknell area as former Binfield and Bracknell striker Liam Ferdinand and ex-Robin Shane Cooper-Clark have scored an amazing sixty-seven goals between them in all competitions so far this season.

This incredible run of form has led to many statisticians frantically looking at the record books to see where this Thatcham side rank among other runs of form. The Premier League record is held by Manchester City who last year won an impressive 18 consecutive matches. Across Europe the best we can find is The New Saints of Wales who broke Ajax’s 44 year old record when they won 27 games on the trot in 2016.

In non-league circles last season’s FA Vase winners South Shields went on a superb run that saw them win 31 consecutive games, while Wythenshawe Town of the Cheshire League won 38 consecutive matches. While Thatcham have some way to go to get close to South Shields or Wythenshawe their run is surely a club record and probably a Hellenic League record, unless you know any different?

Thatcham’s excellent run has seen them into the quarter finals of the FA Vase alongside their Hellenic (and Berkshire) rivals Bracknell Town and Windsor. The quarter final draw saw Thatcham drawn away at Melksham Town of the Western League.

Up next for Thatcham on Tuesday evening is Woodley United at Waterside Park in a Berks and Bucks Trophy tie where Ferdinand and Cooper-Clark will be looking to continue the Kingfishers’ incredible run.
